The iPhone 17 series, announced in September 2025, represents a significant update to Apple’s lineup, including a restructured model arrangement and key performance and display upgrades.
Major Upgrades Across the Lineup
1. ProMotion Display Comes to All Models
- The standard iPhone 17 finally receives a major display upgrade, adopting the ProMotion technology with a dynamic refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz (up from 60Hz), offering smoother visuals and better power efficiency.
- All displays feature thinner bezels and a peak outdoor brightness of 3,000 nits (up from 2,000 nits on previous Pro models).
Camera System
The camera hardware on the standard model saw a huge boost:
- The Ultra Wide lens is upgraded to a 48MP Fusion sensor (up from 12MP).
- The Front-Facing Camera is now 18MP and includes the Center Stage feature, which uses AI to keep people centered in the frame during video calls, and a larger square sensor that allows for flexible shooting orientations.
3. Performance and Storage
- The A19 chip provides generational speed and efficiency improvements over the previous A18 chip.
- The base storage option has been doubled to 256GB at the same starting price as previous 128GB models, offering better value.
4. Connectivity and Design
- Like the rest of the lineup, the iPhone 17 supports the latest wireless standards, including Wi-Fi 7 and is eSIM-only (no physical SIM tray) in many regions.
- It inherits the Action Button (a customizable quick-launch button) and a dedicated Camera Control button from the previous Pro models.
